Incentive Plan

While the principal aim of the Centric Program is to improve the academic performance of male students in the district, the grant affords us the unique opportunity to provide special incentives to students if they remain committed and participate at a high level in program activities. Students will earn points for all Centric-sponsored activities, including tutoring and mentoring activities, assigned character reading, attendance, service projects, citizenship and discipline scores, career workshops, academic performance, parental involvement, as well as other areas of direct participation and engagement.

Students who remain engaged with the Centric Program at a high level and earn sufficient points will be eligible to receive in iPad or laptop computer at the end of the school year. In addition, eligible students will also be invited to participate in a major field trip to our nation's capitol in Washington, D.C. that will include a visit to the White House and the Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King monuments.

It is expected that the maximum total number of points that a students will be able to earn for the academic year is 1,500 to 2,000 points. The benchmark or standard to establish eligibility for the laptop computer and the Washington trip is 85% (1,275 to 1,700 points cumulative) of the available maximum point total. Below are two examples of how students can earn points.

Character Reading: Students will be required to read three books that feature themes around individuals who have overcome personal challenges and academic hurdles to reach success in their lives. Students will be required to submit responses to three questions about each of the books to earn 50 points for each book that is read (for a total of 150 points).

Attendance: All students will receive 200 points for attendance. However, 5 points will be deducted for each absence. A student who has 90% attendance (misses 18 days or less) will receive 100 bonus points. Perfect attendance will earn 200 bonus points (note: but will not also receive the bonus points for 90% attendance).
